On July 24, 2019, four days after completing the Transpacific Yacht Race on Chubasco. The Chubasco team was saddened by the sudden passing of the Chubasco Boat Manager and crew member, Jim Lincoln. Jim and the crew had a very successful race, finishing first in their class. He was a fixture in the Southern California racing scene and had recently purchased a Cal 20 with his best friend to compete in the Cal 20 Nationals when he returned from Hawaii. He leaves behind his wife of 19 years, Janet.
Jim passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Lifelong Sailor - Hailing from Ventura, California, John started in small sailing dinghies with Jeff Thorpe. John is a founding member of CZR | Carpenter, Zuckerman and Rowley, Trial Lawyers for Justice, the proud sponsor of Chubasco. He also owns Sumatra with Bill Durant, of which they cruise and race periodically.
Bill Grew up around wooden classic sailboats. His dad had several beautiful yachts. Bill and John own a Lapworth 50' together - Sumatra. They sail and race her around Southern California. Bill has competed in several Transpac races, campaigned Farr 40s, and has won many sailing trophies over his 40 years of sailing.
Jeff Thorpe and John Carpenter grew up sailing and racing at Leo Robbins Sailing Center in Ventura, California. Jeff is a sail consultant at the Quantum Pacific loft, providing clients with the attention to detail needed to find the right sails. With his extensive sailing history, he’s more than qualified to help others figure out exactly what they need to meet their goals. In 2016, Jeff was recognized as Quantum Sails’ top salesman.
